Winners at 2024 Natural Stone Awards

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the 2024 Natural Stone Awards Cathedrals Repair & Restoration category is Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire, which has been meticulously restored in our Chicksgrove stone by the Cathedral stone masonry team.

The 800-year-old Salisbury Cathedral is home to the Magna Carta and one of the UK most recognised and visited cathedrals. This latest phase of work is the final part of a 37-year restoration project which has seen the large-scale repair and restoration which, across the full span of time, has cost in excess of £30 million.

The Judges commented that:
“The work at the East end is of a consistent and exemplary representative quality that has been achieved throughout the entire project and it is fantastic to see the cathedral sans scaffolding at last. The story of the continued and continuous use of Chicksgrove Limestone on the building is heartwarming.  When the construction industry is becoming so globalised, the use of a locally sourced natural building stone provides a welcome relief, a significant heritage result and a sustainable precedent for the future. It also ensures that the stone used is a good compatible match with proven durability. Their balanced approach to conservation leaves a sound building which also reflects its age.”
