Award winning restoration project

Originally constructed in the 13th century, Sherborne House, a Grade I listed building  with historical significance, has been meticulously restored and enhanced. This complex task required balancing the preservation of its historical past with a vision for the future use. Spase Architects, led by Stefan Pitman, have successfully designed and transformed the Georgian mansion and its grounds into an arts and cultural venue. The success of the restoration project has resulted in Sherborne House being removed from the heritage at risk register.

The restoration project was driven by the principles of utilising local, traditional, and sustainable materials, as well as local craftsmanship. We provided our Purbeck Vintage blend, which was brushed and tumbled, including paving and setts. The installation was carried out by the team from Farmington Masonry.

Within the mansion, our Purbeck Vintage blend flooring is also featured. However, the interior of the building is so exquisite that you may find yourself captivated by the wallpaper designs and artwork on display.

This project also incorporated our Forest of Pennant Sandstone from our sister quarry Forest of Dean Stone Firms. They supplied mixed colour pennant paving, setts and steps for the terrace area around the coffee shop at the front of the building.

The Sherborne restoration project won a 2024 Georgian Award for Restoration of a Georgian Building in an urban setting.
